3rd Place
Coffee time *
by Willem

I wanted to create an "early morning" atmosphere.
I used one 500W halogen floodlight from the left to imitate the sun.
I enhanced the early morning effect by using a diffuse glow filter.
I then applied curves to bring back the warm tones.

Warm and inviting, Willem...well composed/cropped, nice lighting, pleasing color tones. The repeating pattern in the pieces helps to "unify" too. Well done. MFC

Thanks Sonny and Mark for your comments and suggestions. You are also right on your suggestion on the spoon reflection, Mark, that would have improved it. Your comment reminded me of my image of two years ago in the food and drink challenge, one of my very first product shots. It is at this linkhttp://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/image/7698031. It is o.k. but certainly is lacking atmosphere, that has been a main learning here : pay attention to the light to create a message, not just composition. Willem

Beautiful job on this, Willem. The composition is excellent, you succeeded in your goal of creating a "monring light look" and, the warm colors are very pleasing to take in.
One thing you can do to improve the image (*) is slightly move the spoon so that it does not reflect totally white off of it's concave surface. We are talking about a very slight movement of the spoon in the "right" direction to achieve this, K? BTW, your still life / product images are showing the HUGE gains in photographic experience and excellence you have developed since you started posting here on STF. Markjay

Nice controlled lighting and post-post processing. Thank you for sharing your techniques. I'll definitely try them some time...Sonny
