talking tree

by simon bennett

This was part of an art installation at Womadelaide (world music festival) 2003, Australia.
The face was video projected on to a tree which had a speaker lodged up in the branches.
The tree yawned and muttered to people.
The only post processing are curves and re-size.

WOW! A truly a disturbing peace of art. What a great idea and a good shot. I like the way the head opens to the sky in the branches... :) -Arn

Simon, this a very striking image and unlike everyone else I am glad I wasn't there because this would have freaked me out. Great image and idea...Rob

A talking tree, I absolutely love the idea. Wish I had been there, I would have taken so many photos! At first I thought you did this in photoshop too, the fact that it was projected on a tree and photographed so well is simply amazing. - Dee

I first thought you did that with a lot of patience in PS. The fact that it is real makes it more amazing. The moving (blurry) persons make the face more unnatural, like a phantom appearance. You choose the perfect angle because the face seems to dig in our mind. Thanks for sharing Simon.
