Bull Wheel
by Bill Borne

Old Cable Railway
Costing $110,000 when it was built in 1875, this 7,392 foot cable railway operated cars every 1/2 hour, from the edge of Lake George Village, Adirondacks, NY, to the Summit of Prospect Mountain. The fare was 50 cents per person, which was quite expensive, considering $3.00 a week average wages. Failing financially, the railway ceased operation after only 8 years. The rusting rails were removed for scrap during WWI. This rusted cable "Bull Wheel" which sits atop Prospect MT. are all that remain.

The wheel juxtaposes with the landscape beautifully. A nice find and interesting story. - Simon Bennett.

When I see things like this, I always wonder how someone went about creating it. An amazing piece of work, isn't it. Makes me want to see more of it. --Nancy

I agree, it seems so out of place set in the middle of a pastoral scene. Quite a contradiction. Nice find and well captured. Helen

What an interesting image, Bill - the huge metal wheel on a mountain top amidst birch trees seems so out of place that it creates an element of surprise to your photo. Nice capture! Bev
