The cicadas are here...in the mid-Atlantic states. About a million per acre over the next few weeks. The pupal stage which has rested and developed in the ground for 17 years emerges (holes are everywhere) climbs up (usually at night) anything it can find in the way of vegetation affixes itself and within hours the adult emerges. In this shot are two maturing adults with their pupal casings. The sound of their collective chirping can get to be quite overwhelming.
