Lone Tiger
by dave v

Taken with a Sony 717 on Feb. 19 2004
Iso 100, shutter 1/40, aperture F3.5

Went to the zoo today. The zoo had just one tiger in the "yard".
He/she just kept walking the same path. I took one picture of this great cat,
spot meter on the tiger, it really blew out the snow, but I like it this way.

Hi all. I did a little research on the zoo's tigers.
This is an Amur or Siberian Tiger. I'm guessing that it's a female. The females
run between 200 and 360 pounds. Males go up to 660 pounds. The zoo (Como Park) is
part of 'The American Tiger Species Survival Plan (SSP)' It was the first SSP
developed by the Zoo and Aquarium Association. Over 90 zoos in North America
are members of the Tiger SSP.

I hope this helps. I don't believe the zoo is mistreating their tigers. dave v

The feeling of this photo is very lonely. But the poor think looks so thin. Hope this is a good zoo. Nice shot. Pattielu

A wonderful image, Dave - it evokes a sense of melancholy or longing - easy to talk about but not so easy to accomplish. Very well done. Bev

I like the way you shot this with him walking away from the camera. The gaunt appearance of this lone beast, the single bare tree, the stark snow-white background really work well together to emphasize his solitude. -johnebones
