Three Couples in the Rain
Fremiet

Washigton DC

Aother adaptation from the Corcoran exhibit of impressionism. I replaced the background and cloned the couples so that they would be a perfect reflecton of each other, hopefully giving a surreal reflective tone to the proceedings.

Sony DSC-F717
1/30 sec, f2.2, iso 200 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Thanks for the comment Mike, I feel encouraged to "reflect" a bit more about this. No question it's a busier image than the other but the lines are pretty simple yet the image provokes in me some deeper thinking about the concept. People, umbrellas, identical "reflections" of each other, the wet reflective night......for me there's something compelling about the image but that could be an isolated reaction...I'm messing with some of Hewy's suggestions...not pleased yet.....John

Fremiet, your other "impressionist" photo feels like a true reflection to me, and I like it's simplicity. This one confuses my "mind's eye" a bit. It definitely makes me "reflect" on the components of this scene...a perplexing, but fun, exercise though :) MFC

Hewy: Correct, the background is a photo. I had thought about doing what you suggest and it's kind of difficult to explain why I didn't but here goes. I rarely like applying "paint" filters to photos...it might work sometimes but my rule of thumb is that it runs a high risk of appearing contrived....sort of like trying too hard.

It's true that by not attempting to blend the modes better I run the risk of having them seem awkward together....a poor fit. To my warped mind however that lack of "fit" enhances this image. First you react to the people in the foreground, then the people in the background, then the background itself dawns on you and you go "wait a minute....that's a photo" at that point you HAVE to ask the question about the fit which imo is fun and provocative.

Mark, Ann, MFC...anyone else, I'd be very interested in your take on this if you have the time and inclination.

Thanks Hewy, really helpful. Fremiet

good one again. I really would like to visit that exhibition, seems really interesting. As for this image: i think you did acheive what you where looking for. The PS work is very good indeed (much better then what I usually can do..).

Was this background in the exhibition or did you add it ?, if so you could consider adding a "paint" (dry brush fi) type of filter to it (only a bit). The figures look like a painting but the street is still a photo to my eye.
