Ann, since there was no lighting at this point in the harbor, I shot this rather early in the sunset, and under exposed the photo which enhanced the orange in the sky, but left the boats with some detail rather than black. I then went to photoshop and lassoed the boats hulls, and kicked up the brightness and contrast. Since that brought out the grain in the boats, I couldn't use unsharp mask, but I think the slight smoothness of the photo works to it's advantage. I walked away from my trip from the docks feeling I had wasted a night, but Photoshop saved me!

This is a beautiful photograph. The sunset is lovely, as is the lighting on the boats. (How'd you do that anyway?)
