Thanks Mike, I think that they are there to ease passage over a pretty "rooty" path that gets rather muddy from run off into the pond from the elevations surrounding it.

What a neat lakeside path, Michael...I esp like the lighting and the unique structure of the raised, narrow path. Is the path raised to accomodate rising water levels? Nice shot. MFC
