Onto the Glacier
* by Ann Chaikin

The vehicle coming up the path is a large tour bus. This should give a sense of scale. I took this shot hanging out of the window of another tour bus that was about to drive out onto the Columbia Ice Fields in Jasper National Park. We got to walk on the glacier and it was an amazing experience.

A wonderful landscape, Ann. I love the subtle color.

Ann, you make me want a Canon SLR. Hehehe Beautiful image! I love the sense of vastness, the de-saturated nature of the picture, which I *think* is un-edited(?), and the way the mist obscures things in the distance. Beautiful! - JaimeZX

Ann, As Joe said, I love the size relationships portrayed in this image. It must have been an awesome experience being there! Roberta

A beautiful, moody shot, Ann. Reminds me of an old exploration documentary clip...nice tones, comp, and sense of primal vastness. I really like the meandering road with the vehicle on it, taking me there. Well done. MFC

Ann, this is a very nice shot and a difficult exposure to get right with the bright background. Beautifully captured. What I like is that the debris in the foreground, left by the retreating glacier, leads you down the road to a foreboding a mass of fog and ice. The image really gives you the feel of going there. Bravo. -- El-See

VERY cool, Ann. You managed to compose the image perfectly... especially since you were
"haning out of a bus" :-) mark J
