A little light reading (version 3)
by Richard Stocks

My current reading selection, as arranged on my bedhead.

Reshot with a bit of reflected light to make the titles towards the right hand side a bit easier to read.

other sizes: small medium original auto

Rich - Just to add to Mark's helpful suggestions: You could also use a reflector to make use of the light you already have - thus keeping it the way you wanted and allowing the viewer to read the titles. White foamboard or one of those 'heat-deflector' sun-screens people stick on the inside of their windscreens work well. - Simon.

Did you try lighting this scene from front / below the bookshelf? Just enough to illuminate the books... this way ALL books are lighting pretty much evenly :-) If you choose to, you can also light from the side top like it is but, I think the other suggestion may work to your benefit of "natural" ? Simon: Okay (and for what it's worth, I agree). I've been trying to keep it "natural", ie exactly as they sit on the shelf, and lit only by my lamp, not moving anything around. I guess it's not quite going to work, so I'll bite the bullet and "stage" it! --Rich

(version 2) Oooer - can we have a light illuminating the books on the right? Although they're now more focused I can't read the titles from the right-hand side (the third along in particular). I really like this concept though. It'd make an interesting mini-challenge: 'show us your bookshelf'. - Simon Bennett.

I love this photo-- it tells me a great deal about you.... and it makes me want to know more. I think it would take a long time. ;-) --Nancy/JoseNoway

MarkJ: Not to worry, no offense taken :-) I agree, the image isn't as crisp as I would have liked, and is a little dark. I'm going to try and re-shoot, but will probably be flat out over the next week or so, and wanted to at least get something up.

Richard: after seeing your postcard entry in the last challenge, I now expect nothing but perfection in your images :-) You've now set the bar very high for viewers of your work. This particular image is expressive but, could use an improvement in the light levels and image clarity IMO and I hope you realize I am not intending to offend you in any way :-)
