Royal Architecture
by Helen Betts
This is a closeup of the main building of Shuri Castle in Naha, seat of power of the Ryukyu Kingdom (14th-19th centuries). The Kingdom of the Ryukyus traded and also had a tributary relationship with China, resulting in a noticeable Chinese influence in architecture, culture, food and language in today's Okinawa. For a full view of the castle, go to http://www.pbase.com/image/17350531.
