A small, wrinkly mushroom, found growing by the side of the path.

Hard to tell exactly how big this is but I would have tried to have nothing but the wrinkles in a macro shot....'course it's easy for me to talk. Fremiet

Bill, Nice capture. I love the details in the mushroom. I would have cropped out the car as I found it to be a distraction. Living in NYC I know how tough it is to get a nature shot without some part of the city sneaking into the shot. Harry

Bill, I really like the mushroom detail you captured here...very interesting to look at. I like the blurred building/car background...it's a smaller part of the background, and gives me a better sense of place. I get the feeling..."Wherever we go, there they are..." I like it. MFC

Thanks Jamie, I appreciate the comment. I'm a bit ambivalent about the car and building in the background myself. I tried cropping them out, but then -- to me at least -- the photo seemed kind of flat and dull w/ not much depth. I guess it would have worked better in the deep forest w/ trees in the far background. But then, you don't find too many deep forests in the middle of Seattle! :-) And don't worry about your picture count, photography is addictive, and with digital cameras giving us junkies a cheap fix nowadays, your count will surely soar! -- Bill

Since you have a * hopefully I can be a little more critical?

I like your use of DOF in this picture. Initially I couldn't figure out why you'd include the car and building in the shot, but it goes with the title. IMHO I don't think that the car and building fit with the idea of a nature picture... so I guess my main issue is with the composition. (LOL not that I'm necessarily any better.) Something about this just doesn't make me say "Wow! That's an awesome picture!" Nevertheless, like I said at the top... I like the DOF and I also like the off-center placement of the mushroom.
This is all from me, a guy who has probably taken way less than 3000 pictures in his life; so take it for what it's worth. ;-)
