Followers of the "Rolemaster" RPG Rules will all remember "open-ended D100's": if you rolled 96 or better, you rolled again and added the additional roll to the total. The caclulator (reverse polish, of course) was a useful adjunct for those times when you got lucky and open-ended your additional roll. :-)
