John, I really like this...it's unusual and draws me in. I like the mirrored contrasting forms...and even the off-center silhouetted trunk...nice in B&W. MFC

Well, it's certainly a thought provoking image! I couldn't tell if it was a window frame or not. Now that it's a tree trunk it makes a little more sense. Now you could say light versus dark, tree of life in the middle, people walking toward the light or choosing to walk toward the night LOL! Maybe a little twig or a rougher bark might help explain what's going on, but since the image is so "fuzzy" except for the paved walkway it probably doesn't matter. Thanks for the explanation and the link to the original. As I said, it's an eye-stopping photo and made me stop to think about it and leave some comments! -- Dee

The original image I derived this from, and which I have framed in my living room http://www.pbase.com/image/757962) has been a bit controversial because of the line down the middle, which was in the original shot (a tree trunk). I like it; others do and others don't. I would not be true to my artistic instincts if I removed it....imo the pic would become a bit on the ordinary side. I like controversy in art!. Heaven Forbid!! I thought it would be interesting to pop the white images in because the right side is darker...this would provide a bit of balance in a fundamentally off balance shot......as you said in your first comment Dee. Some like it right off the bat, then back off a bit when they contemplate some more. Long term, people seem to like it more and more fwiw (in saying that I am referring to the original, not this one).I DO appreciate these comments, hope you don't see me as intractible. F

Better!!! I'm a "little" slow, I just got it now -- LOL -- the dark shadow people are walking into the light, while the ghost people are walking into the dark... I'm not sure about the dividing line in the middle. It probably makes it more eye catching and puts the people in boxes if you go for the light/dark thought. Did you put the middle line there or was it in the picture?

I like it the way it is but, would be really, really curious to see what it would look like with the left and right side melded together into one image.... with no distracting black line / lampost, whatever that is :-) Mark J

Dee: Your points were well taken. Glad you like it. I have 1) removed the dark patches from top AND bottom left. 2) Cropped a bit off the bottom to offer a bit more up/down balance 3) Darkened lower right a tad, lightened upper left a tad and 4)Added a bit of contrast. What do you think? F

Wow, I like this one John... OK, nit picks -- top upper left that little piece of black is distracting to me. There's something off about the composition to me. Can't put my finger on it. I like the lead in to the figures from the bottom. Hmmm, maybe on the left their heads look too close to the top? I can't figure out what is bothering me about it. But I really love the concept, especially the shadow/ghost against the patterned walkway. Can you tell us more about this pix??? --Dee
