Silver Shadows
by Ann Chaikin

Bellingham, WA

It is rare to have the sun shining this time of year here in the Northwest so this morning when I woke to sunshine I knew I'd better get some shadow photos while I could. My mother's antique candlesticks were sitting on the table from the birthday party I gave myself two weeks ago. (Yes, I know it's time to straighten up from that party...) I love the shape of them and the chair back added just the right element to finish the composition.

Nice contrast between the chair shadow and the delicate candle holder shadows. My wife, Col, liked it very much. BillB

This is a beautiful image, Ann. I love the extended shadows and the quality of light. Colors work very well, too. Nice work! Helen

Ann, I really like the shadow placements in this image, especially given the distinct nature of the shadows of the candle holders and the shadow of the chair. --Mike Ezell

Such a lot to like, Ann. Colors-complements of orange and blue, but delicate. Delicacy of silhouettes, too--the tiny lines of the lyre shadows echoing lines in chair shadow, and even the very tiny fluting on edges of candles. The effect as a whole is rich but airy, with the matte on gloss brocade pattern of cloth as background to the gentle highlights on the chased antique silver. Yummy. - Ro

Oooh, the first word that came to me for some reason was "stretchy", lol. Doesn't really make sense... Great light placement. The chair is a great touch! jim/shutter

Wow, Ann, This is simply a fantastic picture. I like the punch of orange surrounded by the cool, subtle blues.

I'm so jealous. my camera is being repaired!

Ann, the chair back shadow design perfectly compliments the candlestick design and its shadow...makes a great composition. Nice lighting, and I like the length of shadows too. MFC
