This is Nakamura-ke, the 283-year-old home of a Ryukyuan farming family. The first house was actually built here in the 15th century, but the current foundation was laid in 1720.

Helen: I have enjoyed your colorful work and follow your images in the STF with interest because I lived in Japan. But, this shot...this is the essense of Japanese! Thanks for posting it and transporting me back to Tokyo 1978.
