The Real Golden Apple
by Helen Betts

Washington, D.C.

In the process of thinking about this shot, I discovered that Golden Delicious apples aren't really golden at all, but managed to find something else that is.

Thanks, everybody, for the comments! I actually bought the (real) apples over a week ago but simply didn't have time to set up the shot until yesterday, when I just put my work aside and took them all out on our deck in the setting sun. I think my husband is relieved that I finally found a good use for the gold ones, though :-).

Very tasteful! Gold seems to dominate at the moment, but will it feed you? Great set up and exposure.

Helen, it definitely looks like a Washington state (commercial) Golden Delicious, which are generally more uniform in color & texture.

Very pretty apples - I love the shiny gold color on the black background!

Excellent idea Helen and the combination brings out the colours perfectly. I can taste the Golden Delicious....grew up surrounded by a large orchard. Bill

Thanks, Inframan. I got the apples at Nordstrom, of all places, in their home furnishings department. I also got a couple of pears. They are a bit gaudy, but I just love them! Golden Delicious are my favorites, but I realized they are mainly green, not yellow! (I can't remember what these were, but it took a bit of looking to find really yellow apples.)

Wow, where did you find those? They're gorgeous.
As to Golden Delicious, I used to live in NY state & now I live in Washington state, both top producers of this species. I like the NY best but both have lots of bite & character. ;)
