All the cooling air for the air-cooled radial flows through the tiny annular slit around the spinner, itself scavenged from a DC-6. The Bear's wings have been clipped, the flaps have been metaled over and no longer operate, and there are a host of other modifications to the airframe. It is quite a handful above 480 mph, according to both Lyle and John Penney, the Bear's current race pilot.
