Southwest of Salt Lake City in the Oquirrh Mountains, the vast scale of the Kennecott pit strains credulity. It is said to be the largest open-pit copper mine in the world. In the saddle to the right of the terraced hillside at the near edge of the pit you can see the buildings and parking lot of a huge processing facility, completely dwarfed by the pit itself.
