It may not be too promising as a soaring day, but we've come all this way to do some mountain flying and are not to be deterred by the gloomy weather. We motor up to the east face of the Crazy Mountains and start sniffing along the ridges for lift. We turn the motor off and glide back and forth over a spur of the range looking for thermals, ridge lift, anything...but it's just wishful thinking. Motor restarted we drive on toward the Paradise Valley where Duane Hodgkinson, owner of Paradise Valley Flying Service has given us permission to land at his private airstrip, the Flying Y.
