Test Images

This "gallery" shows a simple comparison of image sharpness when a teleconverter is used.

The following Nikon lenses are used with a D70 Nikon body (all at aperture-preferred f/8, camera chooses exposure):
- 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 kit lens
- 60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor
- 70-200mm f/2.8 VR

Teleconverter is a Kenko Teleplus Pro 300.

Basic finding: 70-200VR at 200mm with teleconverter (400mm) has similar sharpness to the kit lens. The 60mm prime lens with t/c is also similar, if not a bit better. Without the teleconverter, the 70-200VR and 60mm prime far surpass the kit lens - and the kit lens is capable of very good image quality.
