Dunwich I

Apologies to Doug and Lise, the first two commenters, who were not imagining it and seeing
stars! I originally tried overlaying a starfield, but as Doug spotted, it was clumsy and
looked un-natural... principally because it was! So I then decided to revert to the original
starless image instead (actually there were a few stars, but they were indistinct blurs).

Nobody can create a cloudless sky ;-)
Very compelling. This glow from the left is really perfect. 105s? It must have been a dark night.

I think I prefer a starless view, lending itself to cloud and fog in the sky and an air of mystery. BV!

A fine composition, with great capture of light and unusual POV. And there are little groundstars in the shingly pebbles!

I didn't see the first one..but this is like a fathom ship lost in space..v

I like it this way! The hull line nearly lines up with your horizon which adds interest. Great lighting, and overall, a super image!

Good work Steve. The long exposure at night gives a whole new look to the subject matter. Something I've not done for a while...

I didn't see the starry version, but I deeply think nothing can be better than this one, I like what appears like a moonlight reflection on the boat side and the angle.
It's a deeply evocative picture, with always your magic personal touch.

Sorry I missed the 'star' version but I find it hard to imagine that in could be more impressive that this intense blue sky. The side light on the boat is quite dramatic, was this existing light or have you been playing with flash? Overall another great image.
Lise Trempe16-Dec-2008 18:08
With or without the stars it remains very impressive.
Doug Cruden16-Dec-2008 17:11
The clean simplicity of the deep blues and the side-lighting on the boat's hull are so much more in the picture...a great shot just made even better!
Ann...16-Dec-2008 17:02
From this angle it is difficult to imagine the size of this boat, therefore giving an added sense of mystery to the whole image the light is just perfect - sorry I missed the stars! :))
Lise Trempe16-Dec-2008 16:46
Fantastic! I love the deep blue sky with the stars as a background for the boat. Very impressive picture.
Doug Cruden16-Dec-2008 16:25
Wonderful shot Steve, great skill and thinking to get that PoV...love the stars they seem almost unreal. Lovely rich deep blues, and a slight vignetting rounds this off for me...great photo. V+
