As soon as I got to the bottom of the hill and was just across the water from him (her?), it got into the water and started to swim.

Dang Ron, if he's a youngun I don't want to meet Momma! =) I've heard they are fast put then taper off. I don't have any intention of finding out first hand, I'll tell you that much. No more off the leash running for the dog, and we're avoiding that area like the plague until the mating season is over, at least!

That gator is just a young-an. Wait till it is grown up. Something you should also know about them. They can out run a race horse in the first 40 yards. Don't ever ever get between your dog and a gator if the gator is after your dog, (unless you have big gun and know how to shoot it. IN THE HEAD). The gator that is. I have known them to grab old slow moving people, or people standing on the riverbank in the water. You are welcome to check out my sight, I think I have a few shots of gators there.
