Ahhh, the Alison Ingham Crackle Technique!
Here's the text from a message posted by Alison on the Polymer Clay Central message forum.

Hi,
having read the messages it's obvious people are interested to learn how to achieve this effect. The workshop I did at Polydays was the first one I'd ever taught, so I wasn't sure how things with techniques/sharing worked.
I've decided to share how you achieve this technique, as it's not exactly rocket science and people will work it out anyway. So here goes...
Alison Ingham's crackle effect.

1) roll out a sheet of clay (premo is ideal) to about no.2 (thickish) on your pasta machine or however thick you want it by hand.
2) paint on a layer of Daler Rowney pearlescent liquid acrylic paint.
3) let it dry.
4) once dry, decrease your pasta machine by one setting and roll the sheet of clay through.
5) turn the clay sheet one quarter turn and decrease the setting on your pasta machine by one setting. roll clay through.
If doing it by hand, roll the clay with a rolling pin from top to bottom and side to side.
That's basically it!

I discovered this a couple of years ago, and the workshop I taught at polydays was the first one I've done so it's good to see people are interested. I'll keep the other technique's I taught under my hat for a while, otherwise I'll be left with an empty hat!!

Just wanted to say that I've looked at your site and adore your work. I particularly like the crackle technique. Where could I find a tut for it? I'd really love to have a go as I'm mad about metallic and irridescent effects!
