Old Town Square
This photo shows the buldings on the east side of the square, Tưn Cathedral dominant among them. You can also see the Jan Hus monument, lower left.

The Old Town Hall and the Tưn Cathedral
These two imposing buildings are placed opposite one another, at the western and eastern end of the square respectively.

The Old Town Hall
Site of the famous Clock, of course. The tower is open for tourist traffic.

The Astronomical Clock
It is inevitable, I suppose, that one must have a picture of this contraption in such a gallery. At the stroke of the hour, this particular spot is to be avoided at all costs due to the hordes of tourists.

Tưn cathedral detail
The cathedral is strangely set-back from the square, so that it overlooks a row of houses in front of it. It's not a later addition either - it was built like this from the start!

Tưn Cathedral
The towers dominate the city's skyline in this part of town.

Tưn Cathedral in evening light
The stone takes on quite a beautiful colour in this late-evening sunlight.

St Nicholas Church
A very pretty Baroque building at the northwest corner of the square

Horse and carriage in front of St Nicholas
A line of these usually await customers here.

Peek-a-boo
It is possible to go to the top of the tower of Old City Hall, a great venue for photography. Uniquely among the various towers, there is even an elevator.

Old-timer sightseeing car
Just off the main square itself, it is possible to take a sight-seeing trip in one of several classic cars. Here a Tatra.

Sightseeing by horse and carriage
You can go for a ride in one of these. Probably nice, probably quite expensive - I didn't try!

Tourist traffic in front of the Clock
Not so bad at the moment, but this spot is absolutely crowded on the hour, every hour.
12-JUL-2006
Steet cafés
The hotels lining the southern side of the square have cafés selling vastly overpriced food and beverages. Steer clear - when they have 15 million tourists streaming by in a typical year, they don't have to make quality food to get rich in a hurry!

Tourist crowd by the Clock
At the stroke of the hour, the Astronomical Clock performs a little show with figures dancing around. This draws around ten zillion tourists, making the scene look like this. Wait five minutes, and the crowd is gone. Strange stuff.
