I'd wanted to see Vientiane since the first time I saw that strange name on a map when I was a map-fiend in grade school. I had no idea how to pronounce it -- and, in fact, still don't. But we can blame the French for that. It's a wonderful city and if you've heard from anyone that it's really just a "stopping off point," please ignore this. It's a wonderful place to hang out.
