The Sree Meenakshi temple is one of the world's greatest. I've been twice before, but went with a friend again -- this time, however, no cameras were allowed inside. We were there just a couple of months after a terror attack in Hyderabad and there had been a threat against Sree Meenakshi. They wouldn't even let you photograph from the roof of the shops surrounding it, as you always used to be able to do. Sad.
