Abu Dhabi

I was supposed to attend a school function today, but instead I went to Abu Dhabi. It's about an hour south, on Sheikh Zayed Road. Curiously, when you get into Abu Dhabi Emirate, Sheikh Zayed Road becomse Sheikh Maktoum Road. So, in Dubai, the road is named for the Emir of Abu Dhabi, and in Abu Dhabi, the road is named for the Emir of Dubai.

I didn't get to see a lot of it. I met a student and he took me around in his new Porsche SUV. We went to Marina Mall and had cappucino at starbucks, then we went to his house and had arabic coffee and overly sweet tea.

I think Abu Dhabi is a very livable city. Lots of apartment buildings right downtown, mixed among the office towers. Lots of sidewalks, street lights, markets. Very nice. I hope to move there sometime.
