SES Pumpkin Carve 2010

The School of Environmental Sciences holds an annual pumpkin carving competition which calls for participating labs to submit their most creative carvings.
Combining bright minds, superb sculpting skills and manpower, the Insect Systematics Lab has taken great measures to prepare winning entries for three consecutive years. When this year's rules were revised and a 2-hour live carve was announced, the entomologists did not back down from planning and executing a glowing design ... and defended their title with a representation of the European Honeybee (Apis mellifera) life cycle. On the side, a few other spectacular beasties also crawled out of the lab!
My colleague Morgan Jackson has the full stories and great images of all of our ent-o-lanterns.
