The centerpiece of our carve was this massive African dung-rolling scarab, caught in action as it propels a fresh, stringy ball of large mammal poop back to its nest chamber. Phoretic mites (candy octopi) hitch a ride beneath the beetle's belly, while a pair of kleptoparasitic sphaerocerid flies hang about, awaiting an opportunity to deposit their own eggs into the steamy bounty.
