Family Pleidae - Pygmy Backswimmers

Pleids are inconspicuous among aquatic vegetation, where they seek out small invertebrate prey. Like the larger Backswimmers (family Notonectidae), they have the habit of swimming upside-down. Neoplea striola is the commonly encountered species in Northeastern North America.
