Subclass Copepoda

Copepods are tiny crustaceans that are ubiquitous in freshwater and marine environments. They are important members of the zooplankton, feeding upon other zooplankton and phytoplankton, and themselves preyed upon by countless other organisms. Most are free-living inhabitants of the open water or bottom, but a few are specialized parasites of vertebrates such as fish, amphibians, and whales.
