Ferdinand V. Hayden was a pioneer surveyor who led an expedition to Yellowstone in 1871.
He was instrumental in the creation of the park.
This was the site of a fur trapper's mini-rendezvous in 1836 led by mountain man "Chief" Jim Bridger.
