Southwest Costa Rica Trip, Feb 15, 2020, Day 2

On our second day, we got up early to take a propeller plane from San José to Golfito in SW Costa Rica. There we took a van to Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, stopping along the way to bird in Golfito, then having breakfast after arriving at the lodge. We birded around Esquinas after breakfast and two more times later in the day.
Leigh was studying the first bird of the day, one of several colorfully decorated toucans in the San José airport, as we waited for our early morning flight to Golfito.

We stopped in Golfito on the way from the airport to Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, so Chito could get some bananas for feeders at the lodge. We were near Golfe Dulce and there were lots of birds along the road and around the water, like this male Scarlet-rumped Tanager.
