Summer Birds

During the past 11 years we've had a variety of species visit our habitat. A lot depends on the weather and the conditions the birds endure to migrate to to and beyond the area. Each year we've added a new species or two. In 2016 we were thrilled to welcome a Red-headed woodpecker and in 2017 an Eastern Whip-poor-will spent a couple of days in the area! Many of the spring birds stay until August as they fatten up in preparation for their journey south. The marsh seems quiet; however, we have spotted a variety of juveniles with a pair of American Black ducks, Wood Ducks, and Virginia Rails to name a few.
