BEN
February 21st 1995 - March 14th 2006

In the end I couldn't have scripted a better or more humane death.
As the vets predicted, his leg broke today from the bone cancer.
There was no choice but to put him to sleep as the pain would have been intolerable for him.
I had pain meds on hand to keep him comfortable and so he lay on the floor wagging his tail
and licking my face until Amy the vet arrived.
I feel so lucky that he was able to get the lethal injection at home.
He died peacefully and quietly.
This photo was taken just a few minutes before he died.
I will miss him terribly.

I cannot thank Pat and Amy enough for all that they did for Ben today.

I also want to thank all of you who wrote such nice comments on the last photo I posted of Ben.
It has been pretty stressful here since then and I haven't had a chance to thank all of you individually.

I cried when I saw. I am so sorry about your suffering. I know the feeling of losing something so close to you, I lost my River Belle and I will always have her in my heart just like you will with Ben! Keep your head up!!

How incredibly sad!!! I'm so glad that he was home with you at the end. He's now free of pain and running like a crazy lab should be! Rest in Peace, Ben. My thoughts are with you! Sondra

Its been a long time since I saw Ben,so I'm glad you sent this picture to remind me of what a great and special dog he was. One of the hardest facts of life to accept is that some things, people , animals simply cannot be replaced. You did a wonderful job with Ben and he had a full life, which is no small achievement. He gave his humorous, open personality to everyone around him and made a lot of people feel better about themselves and life. His spirit is still hovering around Kitchewan, I'm sure.

Yes, the rainbow bridge; awaiting you. These transitions are terribly hard. He was clearly a well loved, wonderful dog who loved you and was loved by you in equal proportion.

{{{{LIZA}}}} I can not tell you just how much my heart bleeds for your loss, even tho it was as "easy" as could be for you both, I can only imagine the depth of your loss!! Know that Ben will be waiting for you in Heaven & that he has no pains now; he is romping around as he loved to do & will wait patiently for you to join him. Another wonderful shot of your bestest bud ~ I love ya, Girl!! Be strong & blessed. ANYthing at all, you know how to reach me!!

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring -- it was peace. "
