NEARING THE END

It has been a rough 10 days around here which is why I haven't been taking or posting photos.
Two days after I took Ben's birthday photo, and three days after I put Impulse the cat to sleep,
Ben pulled up lame when getting out of the car. An x-ray revealed bone cancer
in both of his front legs.

In all likelihood he doesn't have much time left.
To look at him you would never know. He is such a trooper
and he never complains despite the fact that
he can no longer take his walks in the woods and he
most likely will never go swimming again.
Still, his tail wags with boundless energy and that same eagerness to please.
For whatever time he has left here on earth it seems he is determined
to continue his mission to keep the world smiling.

I will miss him desperately, but as Pic Chick said,
I wouldn't have it any other way.
I am far richer for having had Ben in my life.

I feel for you Liza. I had to put my yellow lab down a few months ago. I still open the door expecting to hear her tail thumping against the wall. They do add much to our lives. Beautiful portrait...take care.

Liza... my thought are with you.

A rough time for you, Liza. They give us so much pleasure in their short lives, and it is so hard when they go. Take care.

This brought tears to my eyes. Treasure your friend and companion in his remaining days and remember that our pets will be there to greet us when we get to heaven.

Wonderful photo of someone who is so obviously not your pet but rather your friend.
My sympathies for the news. That is always tough to take.

This is a powerful image. And maybe I'm projecting, but he does look sooo sad.

Liza... I'm stunned and saddened by your news. A long scratch behind the ears to Ben and a huge hug to you.

Oh dear...such sad news and such a sweet boy; I know your pain and extend my heart to you at this time.

How can one ever let go of that sweet soulful face?

How to die is the final lesson of life.
We can all only hope to live and die as well as Ben.

Oh Lisa ... tears in my eyes here... Pic Chick said it all really.

I'm so sorry. He looks like he's an incredible sweetheart. Give him lots of pats and scritches behind the ears.
Pic Chick06-Mar-2006 03:18
May your memories of life and fun with Ben help you through this difficult time. There's nothing easy about this, but they certainly make our lives full, knowing we will have to face this someday. I feel your pain and dread the day we go through this, but I would never have it any other way. Take care.

"I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives
and I am quite satisified it is in compassion for the human race;
for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years,
what would it be if they were to live double that time? -- Sir Walter Scott
Beautiful pic. Good boy Ben.
