Hartsdale Pet Cemetery

If you are having a bad day and need a reason to smile, take a visit to the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery.
Walking around the grounds and looking at all the graves, you can't help but feel good.
There are touching tributes for sure, but what really struck me was how love and humor seem to go hand in hand.
This is a wonderful place.
Despite the fact that it is only 15 minutes from my home, I had never visited it before.
I walked around for a couple of hours the day after Ben died while I waited for him to be cremated.

Look at all the great names.
I bet if you look through this gallery for a while, you will be smiling too.
Notice how many pets were named "Peggy" And yet somehow I've never ever met any pet named Peggy.

I was grief stricken waiting for my Belle to be brought down for a viewing so I spent the time reading the headstones in your beautiful cemetary. After a few minutes I stopped crying and the tears were replaced with a smile. I didn't know anyone could love their animals as much as I did, but there it was -- owners pouring out their love for their beloved furry family members in words on a stone. We are truly blessed when we share our lives with animals.

Hello Prof, you were right it is a beautiful place and although I'm in tears typing this I'm glad you sent me the link. What's obvious is that no matter what time in history we live or what nationality we are many of us really do love and respect our animal companions. What stopped me from getting too upset was seeing your canine equivalent, the one and only Stevie the Duchess of Kitchawan, standing in front of the War Dog tribute with a big smile on her face. Now if ever there was a candidate for a War Dog it'd be the old girl! xxxx

What a wonderful tribute to a place that pays tribute to our beloved pets. I grew up in Hartsdale and walked through the cemetary often. It was sad though to see how much people missed their pets. Anne

Very moving, but heartwarming too to see that so many pets were loved so much. Looking at the dates it also brings home how short lived they are. (I like the inclusion of your dog in one of them too.)
