Candlelight Portrait

The assignment this week was to shoot a tight headshot portrait using only the light of a candle.

My biggest challenge was the focusing. There was not enough light for me and my aging eyes to see well enough to manually focus and there was not enough light for the camera to really lock focus on my subject (who was wonderfully patient with me). I tried different things to get the focus going and some of them worked pretty well and sometimes it was a little bit of luck that got things in focus.

I would be exceedingly grateful for any opinions. I turn this assignment in
on tuesday and I don't know which one I want to go with yet.

Oh, and one last thing... these photos were not supposed to have any postprocessing at all,
including no cropping. For the purposes of posting them online I did sharpen a bit but I left them uncropped.

These are all very interesting shots and, except for some minor "flaws", excellent. I really like the variations in the lighting, model expression, head angle, and eye focus. All have excellent focus, showing the wonderful smoothness of the model's face without seeming too sharp. (Additional comments on some of the individual shots)
