Jim G., Craftsman in B&W

One of my main photographic interests is environmental portraits in Black and White. I find it very challenging to capture someone doing something they truly love, or in a location of their choice, that speaks to who they are.

I've had a shot like this in mind for Jim. I took this snap tonight as he was cutting ceramic floor tiles with my wife. I'd like to photograph him at the custom milling company he has worked at nearly all his adult life. I took this as a "digital reference sketch".

I normally use the "color channels" method of conversion, (as I did here), but having just begun reading Vincent Versace's Oz book, I'll soon begin experimenting with his method.
