The town fortification system is among the most elaborate and best preserved mediaval fortifications in Slovakia. Because of its significance, the systém is enlisted in the European Fund of Cultural Heritage.
The fortification system was also strengthened by semicircular horseshoe-shaped bastions, so-called Hruba(Thick).
