12_Jan_10 Union Terrace Gardens

Aberdeen

UTG is big in local news just now,
as a local businessman has spearheaded plans
to transform the sunken gardens into a
raised Civic Plaza. It's a pretty controversial plan,
as you may imagine, and is likely to result in a
public vote to decide. The probable outcome is
that less than half will support it, less than half will oppose it
and the rest will be undecided....meaning of course, that
the outcome will be liked by a minority!

great capture of this building

Fascinating shot. The building looks out of place somehow, and the image is made even stronger by the absence of people.

Beautiful spot and the contrast with the snow works so well... hopefully it will still be a public garden in future!

Why has it gt to change I wonder....just "because" I guess...lets hope it stays as it is.....a very elegant looking vista.

Ach, progress my butt... On my last visit to Scotland in the summer I was quite disheartened by the way things were going.. I am happy tucked away in our little corner of China.. A very fine image, although the commentary makes me sad..

A wonderful composition.

LOL, local politics!! A grand composition with the dark slash of the steps leading us up to the monument...I like the way you've framed the buildings with the two trees, very nicely done!

I like the building 'falling' away down behind the photo.

I like the vantage point and composition. I have to confess I have never been to the gardens. I suspect that very few people do as looking in I have never seen more than a handful of people there.

Undecided or apathetic?

Hope the gardens are saved, although I haven't seen the new plans!
