Why You Hide ?

Why not use a "free" linux server?
We have around 40 smaller servers running Linux.
Linux is great and we will continue to use it.
But for the main database server, we want the performance, reliability and support possible with the Sun SPARC/Solaris platform.
Until recently, the database was running on an Intel/Linux box, but since site uptime and speed is extremely important, it was time for an upgrade.
It would be possible to architect the system to use smaller, cheaper hardware and be reliable, but there are trade-offs with ease of maintenance and other factors.
