Wanda07_26_04a.jpg

Wanda and I were headed to Death Valley the hottest and lowest point in the United States; but, I saw a chance to get a photo of Wanda looking up at Mount Whitney the highest point in the lower 48 states.

Thinking back to the pioneers that first crossed Death Valley, this must have looked horrible. First they had the desert and then these mountains to get around or over. I'm so glad to have a car and freeways.

At the lowest parts of Death Valley the temperatures were in the mid 120s Fahrenheit or 50 plus Celsius. This thermometer says 122 degrees http://www.pbase.com/image/31889233

This was a fun spot to look for lizards. I could see their tracks in the sand and when I would finally come across one he was so damned fast I couldn't hardly focus on the little fella! Amazing what the high temperatures can do for those cold blooded creatures.
