The Dwarf/Low Bearpaw Poppy is an endangered species. There are only a handful of acres Utah where this tough little plant still grow. Due to development and habitat destruction in Utah this wildflower may not be around for my grandchildren to enjoy.
It's been almost ten years since this photo, and I can't help but wonder if the Dwarf/LowBearpaw Poppies are still around or if they have gone extinct? I lived in southern California in my pre-teen years in the early sixties, and the bright orange beautiful California Poppies would cover miles and miles of empty fields as if they were planted by God for all to enjoy. I know they are not extinct, but when I visited the same area back in the early 2000's there was nary a one to be seen. Oh, you can still see them here and there along the highways .... but not like they used to be in my youth. Sad.
