Supposedly this RSR is now in the USA (Light Yellow). 1999, NYC auction, not did not sell.

1977 Destroyed in accident in Sydney while being tested by Sports Car World magazine.

1979/80 – Currently, another 911 with the same chassis and engine number is reported to be restored in the USA and racing in SCCA.

This is Mark Goddard in Sydney. I took the photo of this car in its road car guise which appears in the article shown above. I joined the Porsche Club of NSW in 1973 and knew the car well then. I worked at Scuderia Veloce Motors at Lindfield and went to Calder Raceway in Melbourne in 1973 to see the car race. After its racing career was over, it was indeed converted to 3.0 RSR body style and used as a road car. It caused something of a sensation at the time. The photo above was taken from the passenger window of another 911 on a Porsche Club NSW social drive in 1978. (I think that was the year.) I'm not going to talk here about chassis plates and so on because I'm not qualified to do so. Rumours abound in these situations and I'm not about to contribute to the misinformation. Hope some of this info is of interest.

High Hugh, I have come to your site by chance. I own this Porsche 2.8 RSR since 2001 and I have restored it to the exact original configuration as it left the factory in 1973. I have also raced it at several events like Le Mans Classic 2002 and 2004 + a few FIA GTC Races. I am not convinced wether the car who burned in Australia (Article in the magazine) is really 0817 as when I bought the car from USA in 2001 (it was upgraded to 3.0 RSR specs) has still the original chassis plate. Also strange is that 0817 was sold to USA in 1976, so actually before the car was destroyed in 1977 !! For me this is mistery. Can somebody from Australia who know th story help me to find out what really happened and which car was destroyed (and wher is this car now??).
