My sons are always on the lookout for a place that has a good Reuben, and when we visited my older boy, who lives in Albuquerque this past weekend, he had a place picked out for me to try a Reuben- O’Niell’s.
I ordered “Rob’s Reuben”, whose description fit one to a “T”- how well they executed it will follow….
The $9.99 sandwich includes a side dish- for $1.49 more you can get an upgrade, which I elected to do in order to try the Green Chile cheese fries, after all, we were in New Mexico which is the Green Chile capital of the world.
Rod’s Reuben was served on a large plate with a pickle and the Green Chile cheese fries. The corned beef was tender but they could have piled more of it onto the sandwich. They used a thousand island dressing for their Reuben sauce- it was a tad bit on the sweet side for my liking. The marbled rye bread had a great taste to it and had just about the correct amount of crunchiness, except for the crust which was too crunchy, I thought. The Reuben could have used another slice of Swiss cheese and a tad more sauerkraut. The pickle was great- the spicy dill was a pleasant surprise. The Green Chile cheese fries were outstanding, and the Green Chiles that were used had just a little kick to them, which was welcomed. So, I am going to give it a grade of a “B”- pretty decent overall but just needed a little bit more here and there.
