So, The Cooper hawks have had their eggs hatch. It appears from what we have seen that there are 3 baby hawks in the nest. This morning one of them landed in our pool, about a 35' fall. Don't know if the mom or dad pushed it out, or it just fell out of the net, but we happened to see it and scooped it out and set it in the shade under the tree. It appeared that mom or dad picked it up and took it back to the nest as we could not find it after a few hours. But not for long as it was back in the pool- our one of the siblings. It actually paddles around like a duck, though it huge, sharp talons are not very good paddling. Took it out again and put it under the tree. About an hour later there was one of its siblings under the tree as well- am guessing it fell down too. Keep waiting for the parents to attack us, but they have only made a few swoops towards us today. It will be interesting to see what happens now- this is apparently normal for them so the youngsters can learn to fly. Update- none of the baby hawks made it- one was killed by something and found under the tree and the other attacked by a coyote and then clobbered by hail...
