El Tour de Tucson is a large annual Bicycle race that happens in Tucson in November. This year it was 109 miles for the full course, and there were 7100 riders. It was also the first time in its 31 year history that it rained. I don't bike ride, but my 25yr year old son did the course for the first time. I loaded him and his bike into my truck and drove him to the starting area around 5:30am (the race starts at 7am). It was cold (50deg is cold for me) and raining- in fact it rained until maybe 1:30 that afternoon. He called me when he got to a certain point and I drove to a spot I thought would be good to catch him riding. I was crouched down trying to hold a small umbrella over me and my camera with it's 100-400mm lens and lens hood and photograph the riders as they went by. I was out for about 45 minutes photographing riders- I never saw my son and finally left after he told me he had gone past that point. Fortunately, I caught him in one shots it turns out.I will update this gallery as I work the images- some are not so clear due to the rain... My son asked me to bring him two towels when I picked him up as he was soaked, and went in our hot tub once he got home. My son finished 271st with a time of 5hrs 37min. In this picture he is the rider between #2969 & #2157.
