This island is featured with both gorgeous Tsing Ma Bridge (青馬大橋) and Kap Shui Mun Bridge (汲水門大橋). But don't expect you could drive there without permission. Alternative way to get there is by ferry. There are 3 main routes: Central and Tsuen Wan (荃灣) to Park Island (珀麗灣), where is the only newly-developed residential apartments at Ma Wan, and Kaito (街渡) from Sham Tseng (深井). Kaito is medium-size boats that traditionally take people to outlying islands of Hong Kong. In this trip, I took Kaito undoubtedly to begin and you can find the time schedule of that Kaito.
Ma Wan is roughly divided into 3 zones: the bridges, the new apartments and the old villages. I would like to get more pictures about the villages in my plan, however, the weather is too dark to take vivid one. Hope to be back there later. A reminder for summer visitors: please take measures to prevent mosquitoe bite because Ma Wan is the suspected origin site of Dengue Fever (登革熱) outbreak in 2002. Specialists have warned that the outbreak will be continuous in the few years even the preventive measures of mosquitoe growth were introduced. Be careful and have a nice trip!
